| Abstract | There is a dearth of studies if not totally absent in the pages of local historiography aspects of Spanish military efforts on the creation and reinforcement of administrative control in Mindanao, Sulu and Palawan (MINSUPALA) spanning for three centuries. Thus, the problem lies on having a âGrand Narrativeâ on this topic. The need therefore to research on the effort of the Spanish military command to establish an effective organizational structure is valuable as it provides a remarkable contribution of the Spanish efforts in neutralizing the aggressive Moro attacks and raids in Northern Mindanao, in the Visayas and Luzon. This paper utilized the archival source materials gathered from the National Library of the Philippines, from Archivo Recolleto in Manila and from various primary and secondary sources found in the libraries of Northern Mindanao as well as the reports and accounts of the Spanish Jesuits assigned in the Philippines. The findings of the study revealed that aside from establishing fortifications in the strategic places of Northern Mindanao, there were also several administrative changes that reveal worthy to be acknowledged. It is significant to note that the Spaniards eventually established the office of the âGobernador Politico-Militar de Mindanaoâ who would be directly responsible to the Governor General by the 19th century. This structure would be copied by the Americans in establishing the Moro Province and their Autonomous administration of various parts of the Moroland. |
