Abstract A commercial Cloisite Na-Montmorillonite (Na-MMT) was found to contain accessory members of the smectite group such as beidellite, intermediate specie between Montmorillonite-beidellite series and few silica polymorphs. Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) was explored to improve the purity of the commercial Na-MMT. Stainless steel electrodes were used for both working and counter electrodes. Mineral analyses were done on the as-received Cloisite Na-MMT and on the dry Na-MMT EPD deposits. Results showed Na-MMT EPD deposits contained reduced amount of the accessory minerals, hence purity of Na-MMT was improved by EPD
